Mekeya Jama has 10 years of experience in the field of social work and received her MSW from the University of Oklahoma. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with experience ranging from clinical case management to individual, family, and group therapy. In addition to her core service skills, Mekeya is multilingual and fluently speaks Afan Oromo, Amharic and English.
Mekeya approaches her work through a client-centered, strength-based, and holistic perspective. She draws primarily from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness Practice, Solution Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Mekeya is guided by the belief that clients are experts in their own life, and tailors interventions that best fit the client’s situation.
Mekeya utilizes evidence based feedback informed treatment (FIT) to establish a strong therapeutic alliance and incorporate the client’s values and preferences. Additionally, Mekeya utilizes art and play to promote creative outlets to gain further insight in a safe space, especially for younger clients.
Youth and adults are empowered to see and monitor progress as they address a variety of challenges that may include: Acute stress disorder, ADHD, adjustment disorder, anger management, anxiety, body dysmorphia, bullying, depression, divorce, domestic violence, eating disorder, family conflict/dynamics, grief and loss, identity issues, mood disorder, OCD, parenting, PTSD, relationship dynamics, sexual orientation, sexual violence, social concerns, suicidal ideation, and other life stressors.
