Alex Kohnen is a trauma-informed therapist with a passion to improve the lives of the individuals she serves. She graduated with honors from Webster University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Shortly after, Alex received her Master’s of Education with an emphasis in School Counseling from the University of Missouri in St. Louis and later became a Licensed Professional Counselor. She has worked in the field of mental health for over six years, both as a clinician and as a supervisor.
Her ongoing experience includes engaging with a diverse population of children and adolescents with unique identities, strengths, and goals. Alex’s therapeutic style is grounded in the Person-Centered approach while utilizing a range of other evidenced-based interventions including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Play Therapy techniques. She specializes in the treatment of those experiencing PTSD, ADHD, OCD, Anxiety, and Depression. Prior to working at the Center for Mindfulness & CBT, Alex has provided therapy and crisis support in schools, homes, and community settings in Lincoln, Warren, and St. Charles County.
In addition to Alex’s therapeutic skill set, she has also provided counseling for those who have endured the tragic loss of a baby. Her own experience with bereavement and her ability of processing grief with individuals, couples, and families has been an asset to many as they learn to cope with life and loss. Alex walks alongside those who are grieving with unconditional positive regard in their journey of healing and finding hope.
Alex is in network with Cigna.
