Demi is currently a Graduate Student at the University of Missouri- St. Louis where she is working towards obtaining her master’s degree in Social Work. Demi enjoys working with adolescents and young adults and her area of interests include depression, substance use disorders, difficulties regulating emotion, PTSD, generalized anxiety, and other anxiety-related disorders. Demi strongly believes that reaching out for help can be the greatest sign of strength and resiliency. She recognizes that life can be extremely challenging, especially given the circumstances of the past year or so. If the events of the past year have proven anything to Demi, it’s that communication and personal connections are essential to preserving one’s own mental health. She will work alongside you to help you maintain interpersonal connections, personal wellness, and healthy coping mechanisms in order to navigate a healthy lifestyle.  Demi’s prior social work experience includes working with children, adolescents, young adults, and older adults. Her most recent experience was working as a practicum student at Phoenix Programs, Inc, a substance-use treatment center in Columbia. At Phoenix’s in-patient rehabilitation facility, Demi worked with clients both individually as a case worker and as a psychoeducational group facilitator. This experience is where Demi learned the key components of CBT, Mindfulness, and Psychotherapy. She helped clients identify and build upon the strengths they already possess, in order to create a new lifestyle for themselves.  Demi recognizes that treatment models are not “one size fits all” for clients, so she uses a variety of evidence-based practices to find what works best for each client. Demi combines approaches from Strength-Based Practice, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Psychotherapy, and Mindfulness to seek out the intervention best suited for each client. She actively works to maintain a safe, all-inclusive, comforting environment for her and her clients to meet in and looks forward to possibly working with you!
