Meanings are not determined by situations, but we determine ourselves by the meanings we give to situations.
Alfred Adler

Emma is a Provisionally Licensed Professional Counselor (PLPC) with a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Truman State University, and her background in psychological research drives her passion for using evidence-based practices to help clients along their healing journeys.

Emma believes firmly that all people, no matter their life experiences, have the strength and wisdom to heal and deserve to have their stories heard. She specializes in working with those who have experienced trauma, specifically those who have survived sexual trauma. She is also very passionate about treating panic disorder, anxiety, OCD, chronic illness, and people pleasing tendencies. Her approach to therapy is largely collaborative and eclectic to best tailor each client’s treatment to their goals and values. Emma understands that stress and trauma can cause us to lose our connection with ourselves, so she emphasizes the mind-body connection throughout counseling to help clients begin to feel like themselves again.

Emma has received training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). She also incorporates elements of parts work/Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients move towards their individual goals. She has also pursued additional training in adapting EMDR for complex PTSD presentations.

Before joining the Center for Mindfulness and CBT, Emma provided counseling services to survivors of trauma here in St. Louis. Outside of sessions, Emma can be found playing ball with her dogs, on a run/hike, hanging out with friends and family, or outside with her head in a book.

She sees older teens and adults (15+), for individual sessions. She accepts most Cigna and Aetna plans.

Emma is supervised by Stephanie Dickerson, LPC, License # 2014035780, who can be reached at Stephanie@mindfulstl.com and will be overseeing care for all of Emma’s clients.
