Born and raised in St. Louis, Jamie earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work at the University of Missouri-Columbia. She then went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Education and School Counseling and Licensure at Missouri Baptist University. For the past twelve years Jamie has worked as a School Counselor – first in St. Louis at the Parkway School District and then for Fairfax County Public Schools when living in Northern Virginia. Additionally, Jamie is a licensed professional counselor who provides a wide range of services to youth, families, and children in a variety of settings.
Jamie has a special interest in working with children and adolescents around issues such as behavior disorders, ADHD, Autism, anxiety, self-esteem, and social difficulties in both group and individual settings by helping children learn coping skills through mindfulness and self-regulation. Jamie has led many groups with children and adolescents including specialty groups such as Lego Groups for children on the Autism spectrum and Therapeutic Book Clubs for upper elementary children and adolescents.
LEGO Club allows children on the Autism Spectrum to develop such skills as; social interaction, collaborating, problem solving, compromising, negotiating, turn taking and so much more. Therapeutic Book Clubs are a great way to get reluctant children and adolescents to open up to peers in a risk free environment. We focus on a current book with a social emotional slant and discuss as a group. They develop skills such as; social Interaction, turn taking, active listening, and peer relationships.
Jamie believes that relationships are the key to thriving. Helping children, adolescents and adults learn to be happy, safe, and comfortable is an invaluable social skill that she likes to teach early on through expected and unexpected behaviors. Building strong interpersonal skills will lead to greater ease in social situations as well as conflict resolution.
Jamie is in-network with Anthem BCBS and United Healthcare. Please contact our Client Care Coordinator, Andrea Harpster, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 314-561-9757 option 1 to see if Jamie is currently accepting new clients.
