The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination.
Carl Rogers

Nabeel is a clinical psychology intern who works with older teens and adults in the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). He earned his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO) and his master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Ponce Health Sciences University (PHSU) in St. Louis. He is currently a fifth-year doctoral student at PHSU completing his Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree in Clinical Psychology.

Nabeel is especially interested in working with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, major life transitions, and questions surrounding purpose, identity, and direction. He recognizes that people often enter therapy during periods when they feel stuck, overwhelmed, uncertain, or disconnected from the life they want to be living. His goal is to provide a supportive and collaborative environment where clients can better understand what they are experiencing, develop practical tools for managing difficult thoughts and emotions, and work toward meaningful changes in their lives.

Nabeel’s therapeutic approach is primarily grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). He works collaboratively with clients to explore the relationships between thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and life experiences while identifying patterns that may be contributing to distress. At the same time, he believes therapy should be responsive to the individual rather than based on a one-size-fits-all approach. He incorporates client-centered principles and may integrate strategies from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and other evidence-based approaches depending on each client’s needs, goals, and preferences.

Nabeel values creating a therapeutic relationship in which clients feel heard, respected, and comfortable being themselves. He strives to balance empathy and acceptance with practical strategies that help clients move toward the changes that matter to them. Whether someone is navigating anxiety or depression, adjusting to a new stage of life, or trying to develop a greater sense of direction and purpose, Nabeel aims to help clients gain insight while also building skills they can carry with them outside of therapy.

As an intern, Nabeel sees older teens ages 16 and up, adults, and older adults. He is able to offer services at a discounted rate of $55 per session. Nabeel is supervised by Laura Chackes, Psy.D., Licensed Psychologist MO #2006027463, who can be reached at lchackes@mindfulstl.com and will be overseeing care for all of Nabeel’s clients.
