MSW, LCSW
Sarah is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She received her Master’s degree from the Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis and dual Bachelor degrees in Social Work and Spanish from the University of Northern Iowa.
Sarah works with adults and older teens struggling with depression, anxiety-related disorders, PTSD and other trauma-related disorders, grief, stress, adjustment issues, women’s issues, and relationship issues.
Sarah helps those who aren’t feeling like themselves lately to identify root causes as to why, develop strategies to live into identified values and to feel like life is manageable again. She believes that we are each unique individuals, so a one size fits all approach to therapy is not realistic. While each person’s history is a complex and beautiful story, Sarah’s approach remains multi-faceted and focused on what the client needs. Of utmost importance is a safe, nurturing and comfortable therapeutic alliance between the client and practitioner.
Sarah uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness strategies, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, Somatic Experiencing techniques and can provide information on how the mind and body interact. Believing that the client is the expert of their own life, Sarah focuses on a strengths based and person centered approach to therapy. She believes in coming alongside a client to help reveal an already existing capacity for personal healing & growth as clients identify what goals & visions they have for their life.
Sarah’s experience includes providing outpatient therapy, co-facilitating parenting groups, academic advising at the Brown School with graduate students, client and business relationship management for a small company, program director at Girls in the Know – a program that works to foster communication between pre-teen girls and their trusted adults, along with being an Empowering Your Pre-Teen Girl speaker for Girls in the Know. Sarah also worked extensively in the child welfare arena serving as an in-home counselor and senior care manager, working with foster children. As a social worker, Sarah has served on many committees that focus on racial justice & anti-racism work specifically and she is also passionate about social justice. Sarah offers parent/child sessions with older teens or adult children to work on specific issues they are having. These are usually brief interventions to set specific goals and get a good plan in place to improve the relationship and move forward.
