Brandon Markel received his doctorate in psychology and behavioral sciences from The Illinois School of Professional Psychology, a master’s in psychology with a counseling specialization from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, and a master’s in business administration from Cardinal Stritch University. He completed his advanced training and postdoctoral residency under the direction of two members from the International OCD Foundation’s Scientific Advisory Board. Dr. Markel completed his psychology doctoral internship at the Department of Veteran’s Affairs and his postdoctoral residency at the Center for OCD and Anxiety Related Disorders at St. Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute. Additionally, Dr. Markel has advanced training and certification in a variety of evidence-based therapies with a particular emphasis on anxiety conditions, traumatic stress, body focused repetitive behaviors, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), and other related conditions focusing on individuals across the lifespan. He holds diplomate status in The Academy of Cognitive Therapy and The American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress. Additionally, Dr. Markel has developed and run programs in higher levels of care, has overseen operations and clinical practice for multispecialty behavioral health organizations, and has trained students and residents in the practice of psychology for most of his professional career. Dr. Markel has also taught at the graduate level in the areas of evidence-based practice and psychotherapy.
Dr. Markel’s current practice is focused on assessment of complex conditions including autism, learning disabilities, ADHD, and other diagnostic categories. He specializes in psychological, psychoeducational, vocational, pre-surgical, competency, and disability assessments for children, adolescents, and adults. He has a strong passion for psychological assessment to help individuals and families better understand challenges associated with autism spectrum disorder, medical conditions, learning disabilities, and ADHD. Dr. Markel works with individuals across the lifespan and is competent in assessing individuals from a variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
